Don’t Overlook Your Mustang’s Braking System!

While Mustangs come with fully-functional stock braking systems, a simple pad and rotor upgrade can make a huge impact on braking performance.

Bill recommends using Hawk Performance’s HPS (High Performance Street) street pads, which work great in both hot and cold conditions. These performance pads also help keep dust at a minimum, which allows you to get 20-40% more stopping power and higher resistance to brake fade than most standard replacement Mustang brake pads.

For an upgrade to our 2006 Mustang, Powerslot replacement rotors were chosen for their exclusive Vac-U-Slot design. These slots are machined into the rotor and help evacuate gasses and dust, shed heat and keep the brake pad surface clean. No longer will excessive heat and dust inhibit your Mustang’s braking performance. In wet conditions, Powerslot rotors also handle better by channeling water off the braking surface, providing increased stopping power to your vehicle.

In our 2006 Coupe upgrade, we used:

This installation requires eight tools, including three sockets, large pliers and a lift or jack and jack stands. Once the wheels are removed from your Mustang, you will need to remove the stock pads and rotors. While this is not a difficult process, it does require some tedious unbolting.

Then, as Bill shows in our installation video, you will replace the old rotor with your new Powerslot and carefully secure the new Hawk pads. Be sure to check that the rotors you’re replacing are correct for the side of the car you’re currently working on, as they are labeled and side-specific. Once this is completed, replace all the bolts and duplicate the process on each tire.

mustang brake installThe entire installation takes two hours to complete, which will allow you to have your Mustang back on the road in no time. Not only will your Mustang have 20% increased braking power, but as Bill says, the new upgrades look great behind the wheel, too.

Make sure to install new Powerslot rotors and Hawk Performance pads in your Mustang today, and you'll notice a whole new experience with your braking system!
