Kodi is now a 19 year old from Battlefield, MO who has been battling T-cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma, which is a rare, highly malignant type of non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He was diagnosed on March 20, 2013, which coincided with his 17th birthday, and began chemotherapy the next day. Initially, Kodi had to spend several weeks in St. Louis Children's Hospital, as the mass in his chest was so large that it restricted his airway, causing doctors to do his initial spinal chemo treatments in the operating room under anesthesia as a precaution.
After an initial six month period of weekly chemotherapy treatments, followed by two more years of monthly treatments, Kodi is progressing extremely well. He was lucky that doctors were able to catch his disease before it had progressed very far, and he was supported by an excellent medical team, who quickly recognized the problem and solution. In fact, Kodi recently completed his last round of chemo, and it is expected that this has a better than 90% chance of being a complete cure.
While we don't know much about the condition of Kodi's 1970 Mustang before he was diagnosed, judging by the amount of parts that were needed and ordered for it, this Mach 1 must have required some serious restoration. The CJ's sales team took the call from the Make-A-Wish Foundation during the summer of 2014, and soon after, parts started flowing towards the restoration shop doing the work. These parts included much of the body & sheet metal for Kodi's car, along with a new interior, weatherstripping and dozens of other miscellaneous parts.
Work took more than eight months before it was finally completed and ready to show Kodi. On March 28, 2015, Kodi finally got the keys to his beautiful 1970 Mach 1. The unveiling took place at a fire hall near his home with a crowd of supporters standing by his side as he slid behind the wheel for the first time.
