Many members of the CJ Pony Parts team had never seen it in person before, so no one was starting their weekend until we'd checked out every detail and snapped a few photos and shot some video. You've probably seen those photos and video on our social media sites and YouTube, but I'm here to tell you that this new model certainly lived up to all the hype.
In person, the exterior looks amazing--photos truly do not do it justice! While the overall dimensions haven't changed dramatically, it looks it has a lot less height and is much wider, thanks to the new body lines and the change from coupe to fastback body styles. A much lower and more aggressive stance helps perpetuate this look, too. The body lines are also much smoother than the outgoing model, which gives it an even sportier, more aerodynamic look. The 2015 Mustang GT that Ford Racing brought out was in the Magnetic color, and in Friday's sunshine, it looked gorgeous, especially with the blacked out wheels.
With employees huddled all around it, we took in every detail on the exterior and the interior, as the Ford Racing rep with the car was very welcoming, allowing us to sit in the interior and check everything out. While the exterior looked amazing, the interior might have been even better. It received a complete redesign as well, and the best way to describe the feel of the new interior is that it would resemble sitting in a airplane cockpit. The Recaro seats offer comfort and perfect positioning, while every control is right where you'd expect it. The ignition is now keyless. Many of the switches are toggle switches. The redesign has revolutionized the driver's experience, and we're excited to actually get some driving time when our 2015 Mustangs finally show up.
We couldn't see under the hood. According to our rep from Ford Racing, this car was still a pre-production model, so the engine wasn't looking ready for photography. Nor were we able to drive it, even around the parking lot, but the Ford Racing rep shared a few things about his experience in bringing it down from Michigan. First, the new IRS made the ride very smooth and comfortable. Second, even with the revised 435 horsepower version of the 5.0L V8 under the hood, he was enjoying more than 26 miles per gallon, which isn't bad when at all compared to the outgoing model, despite this new Mustang having a bit more weight. We're guessing the increased aerodynamics accounted for most of that boost.
One thing we did get the experience is the sound. This 2015 Ford Mustang GT was equipped with a prototype version of an aftermarket Ford Racing cat-back exhaust system, which sounded amazing. Ford Racing is already developing a whole line of parts that will be ready to go as soon as the new Mustang hits the streets. This particular exhaust will come highly recommended by the CJ's team, and we'll be sure to let you know as soon as it's available.
All in all, it was an amazing way to end our work week here at CJ's, and helped to continue to build the excitement for the 2015 Mustang which we've all been experienced since it was unveiled on December 5. However, before we know it, our Anniversary Edition and EcoBoost models will be here, and we'll be able to get right down to work modifying these cars for much more performance and great looks.
In the meantime, some of our manufacturers have already gotten advance access to the 2015 Mustang, allowing them to get their 2015 Mustang parts designed and on the market. At CJ Pony Parts, we've been adding more and more 2015 Mustang parts to our online catalog each day, and they're soon going to be showing up by the ton to our warehouse in Harrisburg, PA, just waiting for you to get your Mustang and place an order. Check out what we have already on our 2015 Mustang parts page, and keep checking back, as more and more parts are coming every day!
