CJ Pony Parts – Rally New England Set To Kick Off!

On July 23, the CJ Pony Parts - Rally New England 2013 begins! Over 80 teams will come together to rally through upstate New York, across New England and into Canada to raise money for Camp Sunshine!

Here's a preview...

Bill Tumas at 2012 Rally New EnglandThe CJ Pony Parts - Rally New England kicks off on the morning of July 23, 2013 with over 80 teams of two or three following a course through Rutland, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Lewiston, Maine before ending late in the day on Thursday, July 25 with a big end of rally party at The Boardwalk in Saint John, Canada.

One of CJ's own will be participating in the CJ Pony Parts - Rally New England 2013. As he does every year, Bill Tumas will load up a Mustang for the trip. Bill has participated since the 2010 Route 66 Rally and got involved to fulfill an item on his bucket list.

"As a car guy, taking a trip down “the mother road” was on the bucket list and to do it for a good cause made it a must. I didn’t know much about the concept at the time, but my wife and I went mostly to cruise down Route 66 with some like minded people. The following year I ran Rally Appalachia with my current navigator, Gordon. We decided to compete harder that year and ended up winning Day 1, and I have been hooked ever since. Being able to get out on the road and help those in need at the same time is just the perfect combination," Bill said.

Rally New England 2012 AwardEver since he started, the Rally North America is something that Bill has continued to look forward to.

He said, "I look forward to almost every aspect of the event. I love getting out on the road and simply driving. As a drag racer, the track is always a good time as well, but the number one thing I look forward to is meeting up with old friends and making new ones. The people involved are some of the best people I have ever come across; Rally North America has become my summer road trip family. We all rally hard around the cause and then go out and have a great time. Can’t beat that."

During the trip, Bill and the rest of the teams in the CJ Pony Parts - Rally New England will travel over 1300 miles and see some of the most scenic roads in the United States. The rally actually begins on Monday, July 22 with a Pre-Rally Drivers Meeting at the paddocks at Watkins Glen International, followed by a few laps of the track. Then, the next morning, the rally really begins as participants roll out from the first starting line at the Ithaca Commons in downtown Ithaca, New York at 7:30 a.m.!

Teams will spend the day traveling from Ithaca to the day's finish line at Baxter's Restaurant at the Rutland Country Club in Rutland, Vermont. Day 2 begins on Center Street in historic Rutland, Vermont, includes two laps at Devils Bowl Speedway in West Haven, Vermont and ends up at Camp Sunshine in Casco, Maine. Camp Sunshine is the charity for this year's rally. All teams have been supporting this organization, which  is a one-of-a-kind camp for children with life threatening illnesses and their families. For many, this stop will assuredly be one of the highlights of the trip.

Rally New EnglandThe final day of the CJ Pony Parts - Rally New England kicks off at Kennedy Park in nearby Lewiston, Maine and includes a pass at the Oxford Dragway in Oxford, Maine. The teams will then travel to the final finish line at the Market Square Boardwalk in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. While the teams enjoy the end of rally party, their cars will be on display on the boardwalk.

As teams finish their final preparations this week, they'll be collecting their last donations and preparing their cars for what is guaranteed to be an unforgettable experience. During his trip, Bill will be sharing a bit of the CJ Pony Parts - Rally New England with us. Follow CJ Pony Parts on Twitter, Facebook and Google Plus and look for pictures throughout the week from Bill's adventures. We also hope you'll check back after the rally for a full wrap-up, with plenty of Bill's photos.
