2013 Cobra Jet Mustang Released!

Today at the Performance Racing Industry show in Orlando, FL, Ford Racing unveiled the new 2013 Cobra Jet Mustang! The latest version features two engine options based on the 5.0 liter Coyote V8; one is a naturally aspirated version while the other is supercharged. According to Ford, this latest edition has three seasons of testing behind it and features the latest and greatest drag racing technology for greater speed and consistency.

The car’s naturally aspirated version features the Cobra Jet induction system, CNC ported heads, high-lift cams and a low drag accessory drive, while the supercharged version has the 2.9 liter Whipple supercharger with CNC port-matched manifolds and heads and a proprietary 10-rib supercharger drive system for high-RPM use without a belt.

“The 5.0-liter has all the attributes to make a world-class drag-racing engine and is ideal for the Cobra Jet,” said George Goddu, business manager, Ford Racing Performance Group. “Both the naturally aspirated and supercharged engines will be competitive as delivered.”

Ford Racing also invested some time on the chassis of the Cobra Jet, making it lighter than the last version and utilizing an electric power steering system that decreases parasitic horsepower loss. The Cobra Jet also features a new roll cage designed for chassis rigidity, a revised brake pedal for better modulation, and new rear suspension geometry that delivers faster 60-foot times.

To finish up the car, Ford needs our help! They’re accepting votes for the official color for the 2013 Cobra Jet on the Ford Racing website, choosing between White, Silver and Black. Visit their website and vote–the poll is on the right hand side!

Only 50 copies will be made for 2013. While more details on the options and specs will be announced after the new year, approximate prices expect to be in the $86,000 range for the naturally aspirated V8, while the supercharged version should run approximately $93,000. We’d suggest opening your checkbook and getting to your Ford dealer soon–orders are accepted on a first come, first serve basis only, so hurry!

If you miss out, though, CJ Pony Parts has quite a few parts that can help you turn your Mustang into a Cobra Jet! For example, check out our 2005-2009 Exterior Conversion Kit, or the 2005-2011 Cobra Jet Rear Suspension Kit, or just visit CJPonyParts.com to find more!
