As the battle between true American muscle cars continues, the Ford Mustang has just barely kept its title as top seller for another consecutive month. Can the 2011 Camaro beat the legendary return of the 5.0-liter Mustang?
In April, the 2011 Chevy Camaro held top honors in muscle car sales, while Ford worked on their much-anticipated 2011 5.0 Mustang. Since its release to dealerships in May 2010, the redesigned 412 horsepower Mustang GT has been outselling both the Chevy Camaro and the Dodge Challenger with little worry. July marks the third month that Mustang sales have topped the muscle car charts, but it was also the closest Chevy has come to beating the Ford Mustang. A mere three units separated Ford Motor Company’s sales of the Mustang from the Camaro, selling 7,489 to 7,486 units respectively.
As August begins, you can be sure that the war for “top selling muscle car” will continue to rage on. Rumors of Ford releasing a road-ready BOSS 302R and a new performance package for the V6 Mustang have helped create some media buzz around the Mustang name again. You can be sure that whatever the sales numbers are for August, the Mustang will continue to be a crowd-pleasing favorite for years to come.
